Creamy Homemade Coleslaw is made with crisp cabbage and carrots in a creamy, sweet, and tangy sauce. The perfect side dish for the summer. Ready in 5 minutes!

Coleslaw is a must-have side dish for the summer. It's the perfect topping for barbeque, especially my Instant Pot BBQ Chicken!

The best part about coleslaw you can make it in advance, which makes prepping ahead easy! Which allows all of the flavors to mend and create the most flavorful creamy sauce.

what I love about this recipe:

    • It can be made ahead of time and should be to allow the flavors to develop.
    • Ready in 5 minutes with shredded bagged coleslaw mix.

what to serve with homemade coleslaw:

Homemade coleslaw is perfect with almost any main dish you can think of!

    MAIN DISH:

All of my side dish recipes are here, but here are a few I think that would be delicious:

    ✔ Instant Pot BBQ Chicken
    ✔ Air Fryer Hot Dogs
    ✔ Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin

    ingredients needed for coleslaw recipe:

    • Shredded Bagged Coleslaw Mix - I use a mix with green cabbage, purple cabbage, and carrots.
    • Mayonnaise - I recommend using Dukes or Hellman's for the best flavor.
    • Fresh Lemon Juice
    • White Vinegar - You can also use apple cider vinegar.
    • Granulated Sugar - Adds the perfect sweetness.
    • Salt and Pepper

    step by step instructions

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST COLESLAW RECIPE

STEP 1: In a large mixing bowl, add mayonnaise, lemon juice, white vinegar, granulated sugar, salt, and pepper, and whisk to combine.

STEP 2: Add the coleslaw mix and toss to combine.

STEP 3: Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours; however, longer and overnight is best.

    STEP 3: Serve cold.

    recipe tips and variations

    • Storage - Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
    • Reheating - Coleslaw does not need to be heated nor reheated.
    • Switch up the sweetness - Add additional sugar if you prefer a sweeter coleslaw.
    • Sugar Substitutes - Use any sugar substitute you prefer. I would recommend Swerve or Monk Fruit because it has a 1:1 equal ratio to granulated sugar.
    • Milk - If you prefer slightly less thick and creamy coleslaw, reduce the mayonnaise and add whole milk.
    • Celery Seed - I typically do not add celery seed to my coleslaw but try adding it; most people love it!

    frequently asked questions:

How do you make coleslaw from scratch?

It's so easy. Mix the creamy sauce ingredients and add the coleslaw mix and toss to combine. You will want to refrigerate for at least 2 hours; however, long and overnight is best for flavor.

What is the best store-bought coleslaw dressing?

I highly recommend making your own coleslaw dressing. You can control the ingredients, and it's made with basic pantry ingredients.

    freezer meal instructions

I do not recommend freezing coleslaw. It's best when enjoyed fresh.

    recommended tools
