What type of crab can I use?
The type of crab I decided to go with is Louis Kemp Crab Delights® because it’s a tasty, less expensive alternative to make a crowd-pleasing appetizer. I love it because it’s made with wild Alaskan Pollock is high in protein with a healthy source of omega 3s. Not only is it easy, but has a wonderful crab flavor you are looking for in these stuffed mushrooms.
How to make stuffed mushrooms
Stuffed mushrooms are so easy to make and delicious, too. Depending on how many stuffed mushrooms you are making it can take a little bit of time. I start by wetting a paper towel and gently rubbing the dirt off the mushrooms. You do not want to rinse the mushrooms under water because the mushrooms will absorb the water and we do not want for that happen.
Once they are clean, I remove the stem and gently remove the gills. Once the mushrooms are prepped you will want to finely chop the stems and the gills because we are going to be using that in our filling. To prepare the filling, you will want to start with softened cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, diced onions, minced garlic, seasonings, and spices. And then we get to stuffing the mushrooms and bake them until the tops are golden.
Can I prepare stuffed mushrooms in advance?
Of course! If I am making a lot of stuffed mushrooms, I always like to prepare the filling in advance. You can prepare it up to 2 days ago and store the mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I wouldn’t recommend preparing the mushrooms in advance since you will want fresh mushrooms.
Can I freeze stuffed mushrooms?
Unfortunately, I do not recommend freezing mushrooms. The mushrooms will become very mushy with a strange texture.
