Have you ever thought of what are the essential tools that everyone should have in their kitchen? Are you just starting off and building your collection or getting married and trying to build your registry - not sure which items you should have?
When we were building our wedding registry, I really had no idea of what I truly needed. I just assumed that I would need just about everything and I quickly found out that I didn't. I just needed the essentials since we are in a tiny house and hardly any kitchen room.
We also added kitchen tools that weren't the highest-quality, therefore, we had to purchase the same items again. The second time we bought higher-quality items, thinking they should last longer than the inexpensive ones. I'll let you know 20 years from know!
Below are 10 essential kitchen tools that I think everyone should have in their kitchen. They aren't the fanciest because they are just essentials, however, they should last for years! I made this list based on the items I use everyday or almost everyday and one's that I actually have in my kitchen right now.
1.) Dual-Side Magnetic Measuring Spoons - If you are like me and do not have a lot of room to store extra sets of things, then these measuring spoons are for you! It's nice having one-side for dry ingredients and another-side for wet ingredients. They also nest perfectly and stay together with magnetic handles. Such a genius idea!
2.) 3-Piece Mixing Bowl Set - I use mixing bowls for almost everything! I love this set specifically because they are safe to use in the oven, microwave, freezer, and dishwasher - just about everywhere. They also have a 6 and 9-piece set, but I love the 3-pieces because they are easy to store. Should last forever.
3.) Pyrex Prepware 1-Cup Measuring Cup - I use this measuring cup for just about everything, especially when I am measuring a lot of liquids at once, like when I am baking. I do not know what I would do without this glass measuring cup. It also comes in 2 and 4-cups; however, the 1-cup is perfect.
4.) 3-Piece Wood Cutting Board Set - If you are in the kitchen a lot, or even just for a little bit, you will notice that you will need a cutting board. You will also need a couple of different sizes, especially if you are making a dish that has meat and veggies that you need to chop. I love wood cutting boards because they are gorgeous and super-easy to take care of! You definitely want a set that will last for years.
5.) Wooden Spoon Set - I would get rid of all of my cooking utensils and just use these because I love them! They are so easy to take care of and come with a handy mesh bag. You can use these wooden spoons for just about everything you can think of! The best part, you do not have to worry about plastic leeching into your food, if you are worried about that. Definitely a product that will last for years to come.
6.) Silicone Baking Mat Set (3 Piece) - I use silicon baking mats almost every-single-day. They are worth the investment because they do that for a long time, if you take care of them. Every time I bake cookies or a pizza, I always lay down one my baking mats and everything comes out perfect. Way better than parchment paper, plus you can reuse them over and over again. Win-win in my book.
7.) Stainless Steel Colander - I cannot live without my colander. If you purchase a stainless steel one early on, it's a wonderful investment. You will always have it. We use it for draining pasta noodles to draining the water from homemade beans. Every since I first started cooking my beans from dried beans, I haven't gone back to canned. Frugal and delicious - yum.
8.) KitchenAid Can Opener - There is usually one thing that you absolutely must need in your kitchen and that one is a can opener. It's great to invest in one that is durable and has great reviews from everyone. I have a basic KitchenAid one like that and I love it. The only downfall is that you usually have to hand wash them. For us, it's great because we do not own a dishwasher. Everything gets washed by hand.
9.) Farberware Professional 17 Piece Knife Cutlery Set - It's really hard to get around in the kitchen without a great knife cutlery set. I actually have this same exact set and I am still in love with them. They state you will have never to sharpen them again and so far that is true. It's a wonderful basic set. As all cutlery sets, they are usually hand wash only and these are.
10.) OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Silicone Spatula Set - You can have never silicon spatulas! I use them for any and everything that I can. It makes it really easy to fold in delicate things, like chocolate chips or fruit in muffins. Best part, if you own a dishwasher, you can put them in!

Totally agree with all these. I would add at least one dutch oven like Le Crueset or a similar porcelain over cast iron for those lovely winter braises and stews!
